Happy New Fishing Year!

I would first like to thank all of my friends and customers for your continued years of support. For those first time fishing friends I hope to see you again in the future. There has been a new addition to the Lucky Fishing Charter family! I have finally taken delivery of my new 32 SeaVee diesel boat. This state of the art boat has everything you could ask for with an unbelievable ride. I had the pleasure of fishing several trips this past week and the boat has been everything that I could have asked for. But I know everyone wants to know about the fishing. So here we go.

I will start with the sailfish. The sail fishing has been good. Not great not bad just good. We have caught sails on every one of our tips except 2 of them. We have had multiple shots on those days that we have had current in on the reef. And that has really been the determining factor in all of the fishing recently. The current seems to appear and disappear on a very frequent basis. I would hope that that the current becomes more consistent leading to a more consistent bite. If you are interested in sailfish this is the time of year to get after it. But the sailfish have not been the only show in town.

The kingfish have also shown up these fish range from some 40# fish down to some small rats. We have been catching them while fishing on the edge. In addition to these fish there has also been a small run of yellowfin tuna. Now, we do get them here at this time of year but I don’t remember seeing this many caught. We have not caught any but you never know. These tunas have also been caught while live baiting on the edge. What I have not seen are the mahi-mahi. I know some were caught but they are not really here in good numbers. The bottom bite has been good.

This week we caught some grouper and mutton snapper which added some nice color to the box. Some of you have called and asked about tarpon fishing. Sunday the 6 of January will be my first tarpon trip. This should give me an idea of where the fish are so stay tuned for future updates on the tarpon fishing. Well that is it for now but I have a feeling this is going to be a great year. So if you want to start off the New Year on the right foot give me a call and let’s go fishing! May God bless you and your family and may you have a healthy and prosperous new year. On behalf of myself and my family I would like to thank you for all your continued support.

Best of Luck,

Capt. Gil Gutierrez, Lucky Fishing Charters.
